I OBJECT to the headline 'Ghost town' it is enough to put off any prospective traders who might be looking to come to Gorse Hill.
The idea that the traffic lights at the Cricklade Road/Ferndale Road junction are forcing people to shop elsewhere just doesn't make sense.
I live in Gorse Hill, shop in Gorse Hill and drive around Gorse Hill and find it a good shopping centre, with the free car parks well used.
The only comment I would make about the lights is that they seem a little complicated for some of the pedestrians. Otherwise, it is now safe to cross, whereas before you did so on a wing and a prayer.
With regard to the lights causing queues, it is motorists not observing the double yellow lines opposite the bus stop who are the main cause of the trouble.
I turn to page 10 of the same publication to read that an application has been made to demolish the Palace/Bingo Hall and replace it with flats and two shops plus a car park.
I believe there is also likely to
be the same sort of application for the former Co-op on the corner of Avening Street.
I would support both of these ventures but I hope the firms have done their homework, for I wouldn't like them to come to a ghost town!
