SATURDAY'S game was dedicated to the memory of Robbie Bowden, who died on Friday.
After holding a minute's silence, Westbury started the match at a tremendous pace and were unlucky not to score in the first 10 minutes.
Ivel defended well and were soon launching attacks of their own.
Westbury's forwards were dominant up front, but the Ivel backs had the edge over their opponents. This led to an exciting half with both sides threatening and only sound defences stopping tries. The deadlock was broken after 38 minutes when Westbury captain Phil Stockley kicked a penalty to make it 3-0 at half time.
Westbury scored the only try when they were awarded a scrum 10 metres out. With power and control the pack drove, with number eight Glen Bowden shepherding the ball. All he had to do was touch down. The conversion was missed.
On the half hour Stockley again kicked a penalty. Ivel now threw everything into attack, and must have felt hard done by not to score, but Westbury remained solid. Ivel missed a couple of penalty attempts. Stockley had the final word with a penalty kick in injury time.
