A MOTHER had no apology from Mothercare after a defective trolley damaged her jacket until the Evening Advertiser stepped in.

Sophie Hall says compensation for the damage to the £50 Ralph Lauren ski jacket is not important to her. Instead, she simply wanted an apology.

She is also thankful that it was just her coat which came into contact with the trolley at Mothercare World in Greenbridge, rather than a child's arm.

Mrs Hall, 37, a Zurich worker, shares her home in The Bramptons, Shaw, with husband Martyn, 36, seven-year-old daughter Georgina and four-month-old son James.

She was shopping for baby clothes about four weeks ago when the accident, which she says involved a rough rod at the side of the trolley, happened.

Mrs Hall said: "I complained to the checkout girl and she said virtually nothing. The manager just thanked me for letting them know about it and said they wouldn't use the trolley again."

Mrs Hall asked about the damage to her jacket and was told that the manager would file a report to head office.

On hearing nothing, she e-mailed her own report to head office, but still got no reply.

The firm said it had replied to her, but had sent the letter to the wrong e-mail address.

However, it was not until the Evening Advertiser contacted the firm that Mrs Hall received her apology, along with an offer of £50 in compensation, which she declined.

She added: "Imagine if that had been a child's arm instead of my jacket."

Mothercare spokeswoman Jude Forbes said: "We endeavour to meet the highest customer services standards, and can only apologise that in this instance Sophie Hall did not experience the usual level of service."
