PROPOSALS to confine parts of Croft Road and Pipers Way to one-way traffic as part of the Front Garden Development look set to be dropped.
Bryant Homes had proposed the road change to create a bus lane to its 4,500-home scheme.
But according to council planners the company is now looking at other transport options.
The road changes were outlined at a series of public exhibitions on the Front Garden development held over the last two weeks.
The last of these exhibitions was held at Christ Church Hall yesterday.
Swindon Council planning officer, Martin Trewhella, said: "We've had over 500 people at the exhibitions and the majority are concerned about the Southern Development Area being developed.
"The exhibitions have helped people realise that if it's going to happen the important thing is to have the best development that we possibly can.
"One of the major concerns has been the impact of the traffic that's going to be generated by this development.
"Proposals by the developer to make Croft Road one way have been very poorly received."
"Now they have come up with a fifth option to make use of Pipers Way, Marlborough Road and Drove Road as a bus route into the town centre."
Mr Trewhella said that as a result of the feedback received at the public exhibitions Bryant is to retain more trees and wildlife areas.
Yesterday's exhibition by the council and Bryant Homes also featured a stall run by the Front Garden Action Group which is continuing its opposition to the scheme.
Bryant Homes is expected to put forward a revised planning application in the spring.
There will then be a further public consultation before it goes to the council planning committee in the summer.
