RIDGEWAY School raised enough funds to submit its bid to become a science college at the 11th hour.
The Wroughton school had less than a week to raise the rest of £50,000 it needed to have in funding for the bid.
But fortunately two Swindon firms stepped in with big donations, enabling the school to hit the target.
The major donations included £5,000 from the Dick Lovett Group.
And a van worth £8,000 was donated from Pebley Beach Suzuki, which was allowed to be included in the final total.
The bid was also helped after headteacher, Elizabeth Cooper, and head of sixth form, Ian Wylie, agreed to be 'gunged' with a mixture of jelly and ice cream, raising £73.
If the bid is successful it will mean an extra £500,000 for the school over three years.
Part of the cash will be spent on building a new environmental science laboratory and the rest on improving the science provision across the school.
