WOOTTON Bassett Secondary School is to open up its all-weather pitch to the community.
New floodlights mean it can be put to greater use in the evenings and the winter months.
The school's headteacher Chris Montacute welcomed Brian Atfield, the chairman of North Wiltshire District Council - which partly funded the lights - to the Lime Kiln playing field.
Mr Montacute said: "We're celebrating the fact that we now have the facility that the community has been after for a long time.
"The pitch will ensure that youngsters get a better facility for their games lessons. It will benefit everyone."
The floodlights were also funded by Wootton Bassett Town Council and Astro 2000, a community group which began campaigning for an all-weather sports pitch for the town in 1998.
