CHILDREN have been helping to create a piece of artwork they hope will last for years to come.
Youngsters at Salt Way Primary School designed a one metre square mosaic and have been making it in a two-day workshop with Devon based arts group The Jam Tarts.
The project was funded by the now defunct Education Business Partnership.
Year six pupil Hannah Webb's design - a picture of three pupils holding hands above the words Salt Way Primary School - was chosen as the main image.
Hannah, 10, from The Prinnels said: "I am quite proud of the mosaic, I like the fact it is going to be here for a long time after I have gone.
"I don't really know what the inspiration for it was, I just decided I wanted to have three children, two girls and one boy, and the rest of it just came into my head.
"I was off school the day they announced it so I didn't find out until I was back in, and everyone was coming up to me and telling me my design had been chosen, which was really good."
The school's arts co-ordinator Lisa Skene said all of the school's 309 pupils, including the nursery, were taking part in the project.
She said: "The children are really excited about it and the group we have visiting us to do the workshop travel all over the country.
"It is nice to have something practical they can all take part in and all be proud of."
