JULIA Drown, Labour MP for South Swindon, has been congratulated by Friends of the Earth after promising to vote for a new law on recycling.
The law will ensure that all households in England and Wales are provided with doorstep recycling.
Although most MPs in the UK have given their backing to the Municipal Waste Recycling Bill, it could still fail unless enough MPs turn out to vote on Friday.
The UK currently recycles around 12 per cent of our waste, compared to 50 per cent from some of our European neighbours.
Ms Drown said: "It is obvious that we should be recycling far more than we do. People want to recycle but they often lack the facilities to do so."
