FOOTBALL: HAVING had top spot taken away from them last week due to rivals Overton's superior scoring record, Laverstock & Ford were determined to regain the lead and in some style when they took on Broughton.
Laverstock soon got into their stride and Ross Nicol got the scoring started after ten minutes when he burst through the Broughton backline and slid the ball into the corner of the net.
The visitors tightened up their defence and started to throw in some tasty challenges, one of which resulted in a penalty after Toby Giles was floored just inside the box. Dom Male sent the keeper the wrong way to give 'Stock a two-goal advantage. Following the penalty, Broughton lost the plot with a number of confrontations with the referee and opposing players.
Laverstock kept their discipline and the third goal arrived when Nick Newman found Graham Mankin in the box who made no mistake with a well-placed strike.
Just before half time Newman tapped in to make it four, and there was still time for Broughton to be reduced to ten men following another bout of dissent.
After the break, Giles netted with a deft chip that went in off the bar before Mankin grabbed his second following up Male's shot. Martin Eyers rounded the 'keeper to calmly slot the ball home after a fine solo run, and then made it 8-0 when he got on the end of a Newman cross and blasted the ball into the roof of the net. Giles completed a good day at the office when he fired in a loose ball.
