BADMINTON: HOLDERS Avonbridge are steering a steady course towards retention of the Wessex Cup after a maximum win against Salisbury Cyclones at Westwood in the semi-final.
Their opponents in the final will be West Tytherley B who squeezed past West Grimstead B 5-4 after a clinching win by Ken Isaacs and Jo Guy in the last set of the match.
Avonbridge, who started each set three points behind on handicap, put their league struggles to one side for the night by winning all nine sets against their Division One rivals - and five of them by double-figure margins.
Their all-conquering line-up was James Berner, Mark Hames, Stuart Burne, Sarah Stacey, Jane Homer and Marion Goodchild.
In the league, West Grimstead C are sure of promotion from Division Four but could be pipped to the title by Coombe Bissett, who have two matches left.
Wilton caused a stir by taking their first point in the Under 14s League.
It arrived against Stone-henge C who had previously won all their matches. No-one in either team finished unbeaten, as the sides finished all-square in both singles and doubles.
