MISSED chances proved costly for Corsham as mid-table Clyst Rovers completed a league double over their Wiltshire opponents on Saturday 8 March.
The shot-shy visitors failed to take advantage of three excellent opportunities early on, with former Bath City man Jamie Harrison the guilty party on two occasions.
Corsham were punished when Rob Speakman scored following a goalmouth scramble, but co-manager John Freegard headed an equaliser after good work from Frankie Coleman and youngster James Weston.
But it was Clyst who took the points thanks to a goal from Gareth Laws. Corsham surrendered possession in midfield and Laws took advantage of confusion in the visiting defence to stab the winner past goalkeeper Paul Weekes.
Corsham midfielder Chris Jones saw a shot well saved in the last minutes, but defeat meant Corsham dropped to the bottom of the table for the first time this season.
The visitors' performance disappointed co-manager Dave King. He said: "For a neutral, it was probably a good game to watch, but it left me totally frustrated. We haven't finished our chances and that has been the story of the season.
"When that happens in football, someone always pinches one at the other end and that's what happened at Clyst. We got back to 1-1 and looked like winning it, but have given the ball away needlessly when we tried to play our way out of trouble and they have punished us.
"We were bottom of the league after that and that isn't good enough for myself, John Freegard or these players. Thankfully we got it out of our system 48 hours later."
