CALLS have been made for a fire-damaged house in the centre of Amesbury to be demolished.
Town councillors heard at their March meeting that firefighters had again been called to the empty and semi-derelict house adjoining Logan Homecare centre in Salisbury Street following reports of a fire inside the house.
Councillor Jan Swindlehurst said that, each time there was a fire in the empty building, firefighters had to close the main road in the centre of the town to tackle it.
She said this meant loss of trade for shops and businesses, not to mention the threat to neighbouring properties in the case of a serious fire.
She said the building was an eyesore, and successfully persuaded the council to agree to write to the building's owners, the Co-op, asking them to demolish it.
