ANGLING: DEVIZES PA Megabait team efforts nearly paid off at the weekend. They had reached the Angling Times Winter League Southern Region semi-finals and missed out on a place in the finals by just three points.
Fishing against some of the top teams in the country on the Grand Union Canal at Milton Keynes was never going to be easy as bloodworm and joker fishing was the order of the day. Team Essex were the team to beat with Dorking taking runners-up spot and Preston Innovations Delcats getting the last final placing. Devizes were placed fourth.
Kevin Abigail of Devizes had a second in section (5th overall) and Nigel Franks weighed in a roach of 1-14-0.
The Ivy House AC club match on Sunday was another good turnout with 25 anglers participating. John Major fished the straight lead and sweetcorn on the hook for a match win of 36-10-0.
Jo Warner drew also fished the lead but with the cat meat this time for 34-12-0. In third fishing the corn and meat, changing between the pole and lead was Alan Mitchell on peg 45 for 28-12-0.
Section winners: Section A: Kendal Barry 22-14-0. Section B: Simon Jones and Rob Cope both 14-7-0.

Those looking to fish Isis last day on the river match could be in for a treat tomorrow. The Reading League match was fished on the Avon Sunday with bream showing in large numbers. Weights were recorded of 26lb, 23lb and 20lb and you still needed 10lb for tenth place. Bream to 8-4-0 were caught.
Other results: Highworth AC last cast cup fished at Bloomers field: 1, Nicky Stallard 7-14-0; 2, Derick Brewer 3-9-0; 3, Dave Bryand 3-2-0. Highworth AC aggregate winner of 2002-2003 season was Mick Mills 226 points. Runnerup was Bill Haddock 204 points.
BCA match on Sunday 9 at Potters was won by Mick Kearns with 2-3-0 included a cray fish stuck inside an old boot, both were landed. Second was Terry Arnold 2-0-0.
