A NOISE consultant has recommended that a two-metre high acoustic fence is built around Corsham's new skate park on the Springfield playing fields to avoid the problems experienced in Chippenham.
The Monkton Park skate park was closed after residents complained about the noise from skateboards on the metal ramps.
Young skateboarders have worked with information technology staff from Corsham School to select suitable equipment for the site.
The plans include a number of concrete ramps to decrease sound levels.
A noise consultant has also been brought in to give advice on other ways of reducing the noise.
Rod Evans, North Wiltshire District Council's community initiative officer said they wanted to learn from Chippenham's experience.
"We are going about this in a careful manner to please the young people of Corsham.
"But we are also particularly keen to make it acceptable to everyone else, especially local residents," he said.
The planning application for the new skate park will go before the district council in a few weeks' time.
Once the plans are accepted, the district council will have to find the money to set up the skatepark.
The new park will be built on land which is owned by Corsham Town Council.
It will be the town council which will be responsible for maintaining and insuring the skatepark.
