THE GROWING shortage of NHS dentists in Melksham has sparked a town councillor into action.
Jackie Wells believes health chiefs need to tackle the growing shortage of NHS dentists in west Wiltshire before the scale of the problem escalates further.
Cllr Wells said some patients have to travel outside the county to get NHS places.
The town councillor has written to West Wiltshire Primary Care Trust to express her views and is demanding action on what has become an "unacceptable situation".
She said: "Local residents should have access to dental treatment at a price they can afford. I am hearing horror stories of residents having to travel out of the county to obtain treatment.
"Here in Melksham we are seeing development on a large scale, however we are not seeing an expansion of healthcare to cope with it."
Cllr Wells is calling on all residents in Melksham who are experiencing dentist dilemmas to contact her as she bids to start up a campaign.
