AN ARMY rifleman based in Warminster has been banned from driving for three months after crashing his car into a lamppost.
Soldier Jonathon Macmillan, 18, was changing the car stereo's volume when he lost control of his Ford Fiesta and crashed into a lamppost on the Portway estate.
Louisa Thomas, prosecuting, said witnesses saw Macmillan, of the Green Jackets regiment, lose control of the car as it turned into the estate on July 16.
Macmillan, who was driving unsupervised on a provisional licence told police he was only driving at 30mph at the time of the crash but became distracted by his radio.
Defence solicitor Alex Daymond said Macmillan made the foolish decision to change the volume on his stereo when he lost control.
Magistrates fined him £310 and ordered him to pay £55 costs.
