POLICE traced a teenage hit-and-run driver after a number plate was left at the scene of an accident.
The 17-year-old Warminster youth was driving his mother's Fiat when he crashed into a parked Rover Metro in Lyme Avenue on Christmas Day.
Fleeing the scene of the accident, the teenager was forced to confess to his mother when police found the bumper and number plate at the scene.
Prosecutor Linda Cassidy said the victim's Metro was parked outside his mother-in-law's house while he delivered presents.
The 17-year-old admitted failing to stop after an accident, careless driving, driving without a licence and driving with no insurance, when he appeared before Trowbridge Youth Court on Friday.
In a police interview the teenager said he panicked and drove off from the scene. He said the accident happened as he tried to turn the car around in the street.
Alex Daymond, defending, said the college student was depressed at Christmas and decided to take his mother's car to visit a friend in Warminster.
Magistrates ordered the teenager to pay £300 compensation and put six penalty points on his licence.
