SWINDON SUPERMARINE boss Ray Baverstock has been wheeling and dealing again this week in a bid to stave off relegation from the Dr Martens Western Division.
Marine's manager had been steering clear of the transfer market in recent weeks as he tries to promote continuity within the Hunts Copse ranks.
But with the season approaching its climax, Baverstock has decided to bolster his squad with an audacious swoop for a Watford starlet.
Promising Hornets midfielder Nick Williams agreed a one-month loan deal yesterday and the 19-year-old goes straight into the squad to face title chasing Weston-super-Mare tomorrow.
The youngster may not be a household name just yet, but Baverstock believes he has the talent to prevent a return to the Hellenic League for the Wiltshire club.
And the Marine manager is in a good position to judge after watching him rise through the ranks at the Cirencester Academy during his reign as Centurions boss.
Williams switched from Ciren to Watford as a 16-year-old on the recommendation of former Swindon Town man Dave Hockaday.
He has appeared regularly for the reserve and under 19 sides at Vicarage Road and will give Marine's small squad a timely boost.
Baverstock confirmed: "Nick has signed for one month initially.
"He is a quality player who can play in midfield or defence and he will certainly strengthen the squad.
"We needed to boost numbers, because we've been relying on youngsters so far. I want a strong squad of 16 to take us through the rest of the season."
Jimmy Carter returns to face Weston after missing last Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Redditch.
Baverstock needs all his best players at his disposal if Marine are to get a result against the high-flying Seagulls.
"Both sides need the result for very different reasons," said Baverstock. "It's a big game for both teams and hopefully we'll be able to get something from it."
