CLASSICAL music is one of the ideas being discussed to deter vandals from targeting the public toilets in Purton.
Crime prevention officer, Bryan Moore, visited the village to discuss the problem and said that piping classical music through the toilets had prevented problems in other parts of the country.
Parish councillors decided at a full council meeting on Monday not to lock the toilets at night despite claims that there is a problem with minor damage and drug misuse, because they were concerned that this may actually create more problems.
The toilets which are behind the village hall on Station Road, belong to North Wiltshire District Council.
Clerk, Shirley Bevington, said: "When I contacted them they said vandalism of public toilets was a major problem across the district, and they were reviewing the situation.
"They said they were looking at possibly putting doors across all of the toilets and locking them at night.
"We felt it would be a shame to lock public facilities, but also there were concerns that people walking home may use the area behind the toilets if they found them to be locked."
