Baby Dylan Singleton died while being breast-fed by his mother, but the cause of his death remains uncertain, an inquest has heard.
Dylan was just over five-weeks-old when he was rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital after collapsing at home in Aldbourne Close, Penhill, in September last year. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Both Dylan's father, taxi driver Peter Singleton, and his mother Caroline Fuller, were devastated by their son's death.
Ms Fuller, 21, who bottle-fed during the day and breast-fed at night, said she had fallen asleep while breast-feeding Dylan.
She "remembered waking up with a start. Everything was so quiet, I felt something was wrong."
WPC Nicola Collis-Smith explained in a written statement that Ms Fuller had blamed herself.
Returning an open verdict, deputy coroner William Bache concluded that the medical cause of death was unascertained.
"It is plain the mother has been blaming herself, working on the basis that Dylan was accidentally smothered by her at the breast.
"That might be so," said Mr Bache. "But the expert evidence points to no particular conclusion of any kind."
