BATH are hoping to strike a psychological blow on Northampton before tomorrow's home clash.
They have identified an "illegal tactic'' the Saints employ in the ruck area and are expecting referee Roy Maybank to stamp it out.
Coach Brian Smith explained: "It was used quite a bit during Northampton's Powergen Cup semi-final win over London Irish.
"One of the tactics is illegally to take defenders either side of the ruck out by peeling them out, leaving a path for Matt Dawson to run through.
"It's a savvy tactic, but the referees and opposition are pretty much aware of it now and hopefully that will keep them honest.''
He added: I can't understand why Saints are where they are in the Premiership. They are the best side we have played this season, there is no doubt in my mind.''
Northampton are missing England wing Ben Cohen, while props Robie Morris and Tom Smith are rested.
Northampton: Beal, Brooks, Jorgensen, Leslie (capt) , Reihana, Grayson, Dawson, Sturgess, Richmond, Morris, Lord, Connors, Fox, Pountney, Blowers. Subs: Thompson, Stewart, Hunter, Seely, Vass, Hyndman, Ripol.
