CHILDREN from Lawn Junior School in Swindon put science into action when they constructed a rope bridge strong enough to support their weight.
The youngsters spent an afternoon building the bridge under the expert direction of volunteer parent Paul Houldey who helps out with a variety of practical projects at the school.
Mr Houldey said: "The children really enjoyed working outside on this project. Most of the practical things they do are on a small scale, so they relished the chance to get involved in such a large scale scheme."
Pupil Sian McKeever, nine, said: "It was good fun. It was different to normal lessons and we enjoyed being outside."
The bridge building exercise will be used as a springboard for further classroom work, such as maths and science, next week.
