CORSHAM TOWN eased their relegation fears in fine style on Saturday with a shock 2-1 win over Division One leaders Exmouth.

Although the Southbank side went into the game on the back of a fine 4-0 win over Cadbury Heath, few had expected them to take anything from a side that had only lost two previous league encounters this season.

But a superb team performance helped Corsham register one of the shocks of the campaign to move five points clear of the First Division drop zone.

The hosts took the lead on 33 minutes when Richard Lodge's free-kick flew in via a wicked deflection.

Corsham had to withstand extensive pressure in the second half, but they held out and hit Exmouth on the break with 20 minutes left.

Frankie Coleman sent Rich Humphreys clear and he had time to pick his spot and fire past Simon Harris. Tom Gardner pulled one back on 77 minutes, but Corsham held on to register a famous win.

A third successive win could be on the cards when Bitton visit the Southbank tonight.

Calne were also winners in the First Division, with James Lye's 37th-minute goal sealing a 1-0 success over Larkhall Athletic. The victory keeps Calne in third place.

In the Premier Division, Melksham's sorry run continued with a disappointing 4-1 defeat at home to Odd Down. Nick Wilson fired the Downers ahead before Gary Banks levelled, but goals from Spencer Osmand, Nick Snow and Simon Dew condemned Melksham to another heavy defeat.

The final scoreline flattered the visitors, but that will be of little consolation to player-boss Robbie Lardner.

Devizes were not in league action, but relegation rivals Barnstaple picked up another point to leave Pete Tripp's side further adrift in the drop zone.
