SWINDON mayor Stan Pajak is breaking with tradition again - by marking his year of office with a gala concert.
Instead of the more usual charity ball associated with outgoing civic dignitaries, Coun Pajak (Lib Dem, Eastcott), who leaves office in May is hosting a variety show celebrating the talents of Swindon youngsters.
But this decision is unlikely to cause the controversy that his decision last year not to wear the mayor's tradional ceremonial dress to full council meetings did.
On Sunday night students from the Janice Thompson dance school, Kentwood Choir and Tanwood School of Performing Arts, will perform songs and dances from hit West End musicals at the Wyvern Theatre.
Show producer David Wicks, stage manager at the Wyvern, said: "The mayor approached me at the launch of the pantomime last year wanting me to stage a gala concert that showcased the talents of youngsters in Swindon. West End musicals are my passion so being a part of this is been fantastic.
"There are lots of specialist groups and a big ensemble sound - the show is coming together and it should be a marvellous evening of entertainment."
Tickets for the show, which starts at 7.30pm, are priced at £10 with a limited number of VIP tickets for sale at £20, which includes a buffet reception with the mayor after the show. Call Swindon 535534 for details.
