SO Ms Anne Lubin worries about Mr Frank Avenell (EA March 3). I think that the boot should be on the other foot.
Frank, who served his country in the Second World War, is a true patriot who writes to defend our British way of life.
Ms Lubin on the other hand seems to be hell bent in seeing our country and the ways of its people swamped by an influx of foreigners.
It is all very well for her to quote the contributions made to this country by certain people coming from abroad.
This has never been in doubt but we should have complete control over those who we intend to let in.
A very strict visa system is required.
Ms Lubin makes a lot of the fact that hundreds of Brits made their homes in Canada, South Africa and Australia and this is certainly true, but she failed to point out that a work permit was required before they were allowed to enter any of those countries and the same should apply here.
Asylum seekers should be banned completely. Not because I do not have sympathy for them, as I do, but in my view a person who is in such fear of his life and has to flee his homeland should seek asylum in the first place of refuge reached.
This does not seem to apply in the case of people fleeing from Afghanistan, Algeria and Albania.
Next to a war with Iraq and a terrorist threat, immigration is the thing which concerns the people of this country most.
It is not Mr Avenell but Ms Lubin who is obsessed and I am sure that if both their views were put to the people of Swindon in a vote, it would be Frank Avenell who comes out on top and by a large majority.
