HOME skipper Danny Grewcock suffered a double dose of agony as Saints' centre Peter Jorgensen heaped more Rec misery on troubled Bath.
Second row Grewcock may face disciplinary action after picking up his third yellow card inside four months for a first-half punch-up with his opposite number Mark Connors.
And the England man gave watching national boss Clive Woodward an injury scare after leaving the field late on suffering from the effects of a head knock.
Both Bath and England will be hoping the ex-Saracens man is not concussed which would trigger an automatic lay-off but Bath co-coach Mike Foley admitted: ''He was dazed and we will have him looked at. Just after the injury he was okay, but as the game went on things got a little worse.''
Foley defended his captain over the Connors incident and a punching episode in the second half that brought him a lecture but no red card from referee Roy Maybank.
Saints' coach Wayne Smith, who will appeal against Connors' yellow card, ruled out any citing of home players but admitted: ''There was a lot going on there. Bath are desperate for points, but there are ways of going about things.''
Foley insisted: ''It was a one-off incident and we will look at it. Danny plays the game very physically and you can say there were times there when he didn't do the right thing. But he will be disappointed that he gave away penalties.''
Grewcock's woes compounded a miserable day for his Zurich Premiership strugglers as Jorgensen ran in two tries in Saints' comfortable victory.
The Australian broke Bath's hearts when his last-gasp try helped to snatch a 30-29 victory in the Powergen Cup quarter-final tie back in January.
That game was a thrilling affair, bearing little resemblance to this poor quality encounter, which Northampton had virtually wrapped up by half-time.
Apart from an early flourish, Bath too often coughed up cheap possession, or wasted chances.
That was costly against a defence rated the ''best in the Premiership'' by Foley, while Saints' fly-half Paul Grayson justified his recall to train with England by controlling the match.
Bath's early failings haunted them, fly-half Chris Malone overlooked a four-man overlap, then Mike Catt attempting a drop-goal that didn't leave the turf.
Driven forward by the probing kicks of Grayson, Saints rolled upfield and their No 10 booted penalties on 15, 21 and 23 minutes to establish a 9-0 lead.
Olly Barkley, suffering a torrid time standing in for the injured Matt Perry at full-back, briefly reduced arrears with a penalty two minutes before the break, as Bath benefited from the Grewcock-Connors dust-up.
But when Grayson cleverly chipped for Jorgensen to pluck the ball out of the air and ground it in first-half injury time, the home side were in trouble.
Grayson converted that and added a penalty to stretch it to 19-3 after Spanish winger Oriol Ripol's break on 56 minutes.
And Jorgensen wrapped it up with his second 17 minutes from time as England hooker Steve Thompson's enterprising run was finished off by neat hands from Ripol and full-back Nick Beal.
Belatedly, Bath hit back as sub Gareth Cooper released for duty by Wales on Friday night found Tom Voyce for a close-range try that Barkley converted.
It was little consolation.
