Good luck to the Swindon couple who have installed CCTV in their home in an effort to combat vandalism.
While it is dreadful that they have been forced into taking this measure, they are to be commended for refusing to be intimidated by a gang of youths.
Unfortunately, police resources are far too often stretched to the limit, with officers unable to respond immediately to certain crimes.
But there is nothing trivial about having property vandalised or being verbally abused on a regular basis. That is why it is heartening to see an elderly couple trying to do something proactive to protect themselves.
Video footage can be an extremely useful tool in helping the police track down criminals.
And while it doubtless was not cheap, if it gives these people some peace of mind, it will have been money well spent.
We hope that, when they see the video, the police authorities can apprehend the vandals responsible.
