WESTLECOT men produced a fine double at the weekend to reach the Grand Finals of the Famous Grouse Top Ten competition and the semi-finals in the play-offs for the Wessex League title.

Saturday saw Westlecot book their place in the last 16 of the Top Ten competition to be held in Darlington over the four-day Easter period with a 81-59 (13pts-2) win in the regional play-off over Victoria (Street).

And 24 hours later they thrashed Thornbury 96-46 in the quarter-finals of the Wessex League play-offs to claim a semi-final spot against Plymouth this coming Sunday.

The Top Ten regional final against Victoria (Street) was tighter than the final scoreline would suggest.

In the singles Neil Hope trailed 12-3 before fighting back to lead 15-12 and win by two shots.

And in the pairs Barry Sictorness and Neil Smith were 8-6 down at six ends but then a fantastic run of 3,2, a maximum 8, 1 and 2 saw them power into a 22-8 lead and eventual 29-11 victory.

In the fours the Westlecot rink skipped by Graham Hatherall led 11-3 at 10 ends but only edged home 16-13, while the triples side were involved in an extremely close game but went down by one shot.
