STUDENTS from Swindon can now sign up for the International Baccalaureate.
Cirencester College has just become the first in the area to offer the qualification. The IB is an internationally recognised qualification taken instead of A-levels.
Meanwhile, New College in Walcot and Swindon College have confirmed they are considering offering the course.
Cirencester College is one of just 44 schools and colleges in the UK currently authorised to offer the diploma.
Students study a broad choice of subjects over two years, together with a programme of studies designed to develop the student and foster his or her analytical, social and creative skills.
It also allows students to claim their place at university well before A-level results are out. Vice principal Desna McAll said: "The authorisation process is rigorous. Officials take care to ensure colleges approved to offer the IB have staff of a very high calibre."
