Century stand for Roger
SALISBURY A effectively rubber-stamped their retention of the Wiltshire Winter League title with a maximum win at Purton on Sunday that provided a personal milestone for long-serving clubman Roger Witt.
It was his hundredth appearance in a winning Salisbury team in the Wiltshire competition.
A draw in their one remaining match will confirm Salisbury A as champions, but it is against their own club's B side so anything less than a win would be a major upset.
If the B team do spring a surprise and take both points, they will be champions instead.
Salisbury and Riverside teams consolidated their Sarum League places with results that were also a help to Downton A.
Salisbury A, fielding four different players from the side that won at River-side a week earlier, finished all square at Harn-ham in the return meeting to pick up the point they needed to finish in mid-table.
Riverside A, with that draw, and a decisive win in their last match at And-over, secured third place and improved Downton's chances of staying in Division One.
It left Andover still needing a point to escape the drop, but to stay up now at Downton's expense, they must avoid defeat in their remaining match away to champions, Wellow A - a feat no other team has managed.
