SAM PARKIN has vowed to soothe supporters' frayed nerves before preparing for a more 'consistent' goalscoring campaign next year.
The young striker bagged his 21st goal of the season as Andy King's men fought back to earn a 1-1 draw with Bristol City at the County Ground.
The point nudged Town a step closer to safety as well as enhancing Parkin's standing in the player-of-the-year stakes.
But despite a fantastic first season in a red shirt, Parkin knows he is capable of more.
He said: "My goals have tended to come in bursts this season and I want to try and give the supporters an easier end to the season by grabbing a few more on top of this one, giving us the wins we need.
"Obviously I'm pleased to have scored the goals I have this season but next year, having got a little more experience under my belt, I will be aiming to score goals more consistently.
"I had a great scoring start but it's been a bit up and down since Christmas.
"Hopefully the goals will come more regularly throughout the season next year."
But despite enjoying all the attention, ex-Chelsea man Parkin is swift to point out that a goalscorer needs others to provide him with ammunition.
He said: "Obviously I've been the main goal-getter but then the players around me have been setting up the chances.
"The manager has encouraged me to take up positions in the 18 yard box, to be a little bit greedy if you like, and it's paid off."
As for his latest goal, Parkin joked: "I thought about taking my top off again but then I just 'lose it' when I score.
"Seriously, it was great to score in a derby game and it got us a point we really needed.
"The atmosphere was good. It makes a real difference when you have so many people inside the ground.
"It really spurs you on."
Although Parkin's goal helped put a little more daylight between Town and the bottom four, the draw with Danny Wilson's team came at a price.
Steve Robinson, Junior Lewis and Danny Invincible all received knocks and the damage was due to be assessed today by physio Dick Mackey.
Manager Andy King admitted: "We will just have to see how they are.
"Everyone knows the squad is not the biggest and it's important to try and steer clear of injuries.
"There are only kids on the bench."
The winner of the Supporters Club 50-50 draw at the Bristol City game last night was Mrs M Large of Swindon with ticket number 194.
