MUM Alexandra Heard's brainchild, Tractor Ted, has made her a runner up for a prestigious business award

Mrs Heard, of Spye Park, near Bromham said she was thrilled to be a runner up in the small rural business category of Country Living Magazine's enterprising rural women awards.

"I am really, really pleased," she said.

Mrs Heard is to have her work featured in Country Living Magazine.

She set up Owl Productions, a company two years ago to create children's videos about real life farming and farm machines.

She dreamed up the idea when trying to find films for her own tractor-mad sons, now aged six and four.

Mrs Heard enlisted the help of a farming friend, set up Owl Productions and began creating entertaining and educational videos.

Mrs Heard runs the business from home, and combines being a parent with her role as video entrepreneur.

The Tractor Ted films appeal to children aged up to six and revolve around modern UK farming, food production and healthy nutrition.

Titles in the series include Tractor Ted Goes Milking, Tractor Ted Makes Bread and Tractor Ted Grows Potatoes. Tractor Ted has appeared on more than 1.4 million Yeo Valley yogurt pots and the videos have been sold in Sainsbury's west country stores since last November.

Other retailers include farm shops, toyshops and schools.

Owl Productions uses local staff and local suppliers for printing, camera work, narrating and animating.

The overall winners of the awards were announced yesterday at the Country Living spring fair, at the Business Design Centre, Islington, in London.

The contest has been judged by magazine editor Susy Smith, Bill Jordan, founder of sponsors Jordans Cereals, and Izzy Warren Smith, founder of Women in Rural Enterprise.
