CALNE bid the continental market a hearty 'bienvenue' when it visited the town on March 8 and 9 laden with freshly-baked croissants and other gastronomic treats.
The novelty of the market pulled in the crowds who wandered through the 20 stalls in the market place next to Sainsbury's lower car park, munching on French crepes smeared with sugar, chocolate, honey and fruit.
Most people thought it was a good idea, but some, according to the town council's community development officer, Mark Wilkins, felt the focus should be on local farmers.
Mr Wilkins said he would be interested in arranging for Wiltshire Farmers' Market to come to Calne for a whole day. Calne Farmers' Market was forced to close last year because of flagging interest.
