YOUTH RUGBY: DEVIZES U10s saw their hopes of victory in the Warminster Festival on Sunday dashed by a golden try in the final.
The U10s played some of their best rugby to emerge on top in their pool, beating Midsomer Norton 10-0 and Trowbridge 10-5.
Alex Botham's solo run was the highlight as Devizes booked their place in the final with a 25-5 win over Corsham in the last four.
They met Midsomer Norton for the second time in the final and fell behind before Nick Balls' second festival try levelled the scores.
Sudden death extra time was needed to separate the sides. After three minutes of end-to-end play it was Midsomer Norton who scored the decisive try in the corner.
Devizes U7s lost their unbeaten record at Warminster and were knocked out of the competition at the semi-final stage. The mini Saddlebacks began the day well as they chalked up a number of impressive tries on their way to a handsome win over rivals Midsomer Norton.
Devizes lost to Trowbridge in their pool match but went through as group runners-up. They faced Melksham in the semi-finals, but suffered their second defeat on the trot and bowed out of the competition.
Devizes U11s came away from the Warminster Festival with runners-up medals after going down 10-0 to Bradford in the final.
Henry Marlow, Lewis Paget, Hugo O'Neil, William Baker and Matthew Jopling were among the tries as Devizes topped their group, while Jack Aroskin crossed for the decisive win in the semi-final win over Frome.
The U12s were also beaten in the final, going down 20-5 despite a try from Craig Bryant. They drew with Midsomer Norton and defeated Trowbridge/Warminster Barbarians to emerge from their group and made the final thanks to a semi-final win over Frome. Their tries were scored by Bryant, Jamie Maylands, Liam Butler and Rory Brown.
Corsham under nines beat Devizes 2-1 in the semis and, after a scoreless final, Jacob Unwin's golden try eventually sealed it.
