MARLBOROUGH were denied their first league point since January 4 as spirited visitors Colerne grabbed only their second Dorset and Wilts Two North victory of the campaign.

The hosts drew first blood in the second minute when fly half Geraint Jones slotted over a penalty after Colerne were caught offside.

But Colerne began to put continuous forward pressure on Marlborough and drove over for their first try on 11 minutes.

Marlborough hit back immediately with an excellent try from centre Sacha Petit following some inspired running and handling in the home side's backs, but the visitors crossed again to lead by two at the break.

Some poor defending from Marlborough allowed Colerne the chance to run in their third try, and they scored again only seven minutes later with a converted effort.

Centre Charlie Randall sparked the Marlborough fightback on the hour when he ran 40 yards to score under the posts, Jones adding the conversion.

Petit was released again to score his second try of the game and, on 71 minutes, Charlie Randall followed up a superb Marlborough forward break out to bag another.

Jones duly converted to put his side five points in front, but Colerne levelled the scores with six minutes left following some sloppy defending.

In the last seconds of the game, Colerne found themselves with an overlap following some poor Marlborough tackling and their winger passed to the outside centre for a simple touch-down.

Marlborough play Trowbridge 2nd in a friendly on Marlborough Common on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.
