WILTSHIRE'S first indoor cricket academy is being built in Warminster and could be finished by the summer.

Work on the building started last year and officials hope it will be finished in June.

The academy is being built at the back of the clubhouse at Sambourne Road and will help players of all ages and ability to develop their skills.

The finished building will provide a two-net practice area and video training.

Spokesman Sally Hutton said: "There are no similar full-time facilities available to cricketers in Wiltshire, and it is hoped that the availability of such a facility to other clubs, local schools and various disabled groups in the area will be well received.

"The academy will also be large enough to be able to accommodate junior matches and tournaments."

Bookings for the academy will be taken from the middle of next month.

Mrs Hutton said: "As with all projects of this size, Warminster Cricket Club is actively seeking sponsorship and would welcome any donations or assistance."

Warminster Cricket Club is expecting a busy season this year. As well as the academy it is planning to establish a ladies' team.
