THE Devon visitors returned home with three First Division points after gaining a rather flattering scoreline at Meadow Lane on Saturday 15 March.
Only two late goals from substitute Gareth Law put the game beyond United's reach and had it not been for a friendly bounce in Clyst's favour the result would probably have been different.
Clyst started by far the better team and adjusted well to the bouncy surface and blustery conditions.
A blunder on 10 minutes by Tom Evans gifted the ball to Chris Hooper and he made no mistake as he shot past Mark Batters to give Clyst the lead.
Hooper could have claimed a hat-trick before 20 minutes as he shot over the bar with a half volley and then prodded a close range effort just past the post.
United, having weathered the storm, came more into the game in the latter stages of the half. Steve Perkins cracked a 25 yard shot wide and Clyst keeper Mark Rock, whose huge kicks had caused many problems to United, turned saviour with some good blocks to deny United in goalmouth scrambles.
This enabled Clyst to take their lead into half time.
The second half was delayed by over half an hour after an injury to one of the officials and a replacement had to be sent for.
When the match resumed United continued their pre-break pressure and deservedly equalised on 51 minutes.
A direct pass by Darren Lush to Toby Colbourne saw the striker flick a header over Rock and into the goal.
Clyst were stirred into action again and Law brought a great save out of Batters on the hour as his diving header seemed to be going in.
As the game went from end to end the turning point came on 68. A ball over the Clyst defence by Steve Perkins was met by a wonderful lob by Wayne Wheeler wide on the left. The ball seemed to be going in having beaten Rock but hit the far post and amazingly rebounded straight to the relieved keeper.
Within a few minutes Clyst took the lead again. A pinpoint corner from Richard Gomm was met by Martin Dunstone and his header crept over the line.
As United made a triple substitution in their quest for a point it was Law who put the match beyond United as he twice beat the defence and finished with ease past Batters.
