HOTELIER Herbie Binder is facing temptation every day after giving up drink and cigarettes for Lent.
He runs the Polebarn Hotel in Trowbridge and every evening, because of the very nature of his job, is surrounded by customers enjoying a drink and a cigarette.
He said: "As a Catholic I wanted to give up something for Lent and decided to go without my favourite tipple and my social smoke.
"It has been hard over the last few days but now I feel strong willed and I am determined to succeed.
"Some of my customers try and tempt me with the offer of a beer or a cigarette but I decline and take delight in taking sponsorship money from them."
Mr Binder, who has run the Polebarn Hotel for the last 13 years, is raising money for Stepping Stones, the pre-school for children with special needs.
He said: "Stepping Stones are our neighbours and they do such a good job with the children."
By sacrificing his favourite tipple and his cigarettes he hopes to raise £500.
