SWINDON Film Society is showing award-winning film The Warrior as the next instalment of its alternative film season at the Arts Centre in Devizes Road on Wednesday.

The film recently won the 2003 Bafta award for Best British Film and its young British-born director, Asif Kapadia, was awarded the Most Promising Newcomer title.

Set in Rajasthan, the film is based on a Japanese folk tale in which a feudal warrior has a crisis of conscience, renounces violence and embarks on an arduous journey both real and spiritual from the desert to the mountains in search of redemption and peace.

The film is in Hindi with English subtitles and is described as visually stunning, epic in its scope with an intense performance by lead actor Irfan Khan.

The showing starts at 7.45pm with non-members welcome to join the society at the Arts Centre on the night. General membership costs £2 and entrance to the film is £3.50 (concessions £3).
