AS a much-maligned motorist, I would like to comment on the in-favour cyclists and all the money being spent on cycle tracks around Swindon, aimed at making it safer for them.
This I have no problem with. What I strongly object to is that the majority of cyclists ride where they want to on footpaths (perhaps they can't tell the difference between footpaths and cycle tracks) and on roads, even though the cycle tracks are well marked.
Why is it they are allowed to cycle with no lights or bells? If they had bells at least the pedestrians could then step into road and allow them to pass and one hopes that people with prams and small children and incapacitated people in wheelchairs won't object.
Imagine what a wonderful time the police would have if motorists drove their cars without lights or horns.
A case of what a soft target we motorists are.
