THIS is what residents of Swindon's newest village can look forward to.
Work is set to begin later this year on Braydon Mead, a 2,000 home estate in Swindon's Northern Development.
Homebuilders Crest Nicholson have released an artist's impression of the development.
The centre will eventually contain a High Street and Main Square, and a market square with shops, a pub, restaurants, a wine bar and supermarket.
The village will form part of the larger 5,500 home Priory Vale scheme that will take ten years to build and will eventually house 12,500 people.
There will also be a medical centre set over three floors, 50 units of sheltered housing, 20,000 square feet of office space and a day nursery. A third of an acre has been set aside for a church.
Councillor Justin Tomlinson (Con, Abbey Meads) welcomed the development but said he would be working closely with the building company and residents to ensure everything was done properly and on time.
He said: "This is exciting news for the ever expanding Northern Develop ment.
"We have been through many new residential schemes so we'll be keeping a close eye on making sure the correct local amenities and facilities are made available as quickly as possible.
"It is imperative that the schools are completed on time and that roads are finished to the correct standard. Essentially we want to make sure all the loose ends are tied up because in a development of this size things can be left behind."
Education will be a priority in Braydon Mead, with the first of two Private Finance Initiative primary schools set to open in September 2004.
It will eventually be home to a 32 acre education campus containing a 1,200 pupil secondary school, due to open in 2006, and a special needs school, sports facilities and a community centre.
Graham Holland of Crest Nicholson said: "We have undertaken years of research and careful planning to culminate in the creation of a traditional style English village with all the amenities that are required.
"Braydon Mead is much more than a new development it is a community in the making."
Homes currently on sale include one-bedroomed apartments in a Jacobean style manor house from £132,500, three-bedroomed terraced houses from £167,500 and four-bedroomed detached houses from £213,500.
