SWINDON 2nd put up a fighting display but were unable to prevent their Swanage & Wareham counterparts from claiming a 29-11 in the Dorset & Wilts 2nd XV Cup final at Sherborne yesterday.
It was a battling effort from the Wiltshire side, who fielded a host of youngsters.
Neil Maycock bagged a try for the Jason WIlliams' underdogs, while James Torley booted two penalties to make up their tally.
But it wasn't enough to prevent the pre-tournament favourites from claiming the crown, despite excellent displays from youngsters Richard Lowe, 17, Darren New, Jamie Whatcroft and Steve Hutchinson.
DEVIZES' spirited display could not prevent a crushing end to their Dorset & Wilts Cup hopes as Swanage & Wareham claimed a 50-0 victory.
The South West Two East outfit led 13-0 at the interval and they finished the game the stronger.
Swan's prop Richard Williams crossed for a pair of touchdowns with a try each coming from scrum-half Mark Woolley, fly half James Harris, centre Richard Templeton and left wing Andy Gould.
Skipper Phil Graves had a fruitful afternoon with the boot kicking four penalties and four conversions.
CORSHAM bowed out of the Bath Combination Cup as hosts Avon claimed a 37-17 victory.
Wing Peter Mead did the damage for the home side, weighing in with three tries. Steve Mitten ran in two and Wayne Jefferies also crossed, while Geraint Lewis booted a penalty and two conversions.
But the Wiltshire side battled hard and hit back with three tries of their own. Tim Russell touched down and teammates Roy Hewett and Nick Denham also added scores. Phil Kernan booted a conversion.
