A FUNDRAISING drive is being launched at Swindon's Marriott Leisure Club in aid of the Abby Smith Cancer Fund.

The club's 1,500 members are asked to donate money to the fund before using facilities at the hotel in Pipers Way, Swindon. Fundraising starts today and lasts until April 6.

Scott Davies, leisure operations manager at the club, said: "Members will be asked to donate 50p or £1 to use exercise equipment.

"We will also be donating the 50p hire charge for using towels to the fund."

Abby Smith was just three when she lost her battle against cancer last year.

Her family set up a fund in her name to raise money for CALM, the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Movement, and the children's cancer ward at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

Abby's mother Helen, 34, of Downland Road, Moredon, said: "I'm very touched that the staff at the Marriott have agreed to do this."
