A JUDGE imposed a hospital order on a man with mental health problems who wreaked havoc in Swindon town centre.
Swindon Crown Court heard how Robert Hughes smashed several shop windows in January and told police he did it for fun.
Caretaker Hughes, 31, of Linden House, Bath Road, Old Town, pleaded guilty to causing £1,000 damage by breaking three panes of glass at the Po Na Na bar in Theatre Square.
He also admitted to a glass-smashing spree on January 21, when he broke windows at Alliance and Leicester bank, HMV, Woolworths, Linens Direct and Superdrug - causing £1,900 damage.
Prosecuting, Nic O'Brien said that in December Hughes got a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, after admitting telling police there was a bomb at Swindon rail station and a bomb at an unspecified Asda store. He admitted breaching his suspended sentence.
Judge John McNaught said he accepted Hughes suffered from a mental impairment that needed treatment.
