Children in Swindon enjoyed a taste of Hollywood and saw themselves on the big screen.

More than 200 people gathered at Cineworld at Greenbridge to watch the premiere of This is Me, a collection of films, starring youngsters from Parks and Penhill.

Adding to the glamour, HTV presenter Fiona Wilson was in the audience.

She said: "These films show how inspirational children can be. They are full of brilliant ideas and we should listen to them more."

The project, run by the Mobile Media Club of cre8 studios in Swindon, gave 100 seven to 17-year-olds the chance to make films about their lives.

With the help of six professional film-makers, they used digital photography, animation and video to explore anything from their friendships to career ambitions.

Sarah Price, 12, from Headlands School in Penhill, starred in What If.

She said: "I played a medic and resuscitated someone who was run over. Making the film helped me decide my future career."

The movie premiere proved a family affair for Steven Fyfe, 13, also a pupil at Headlands School.

He said: "I brought my brother, Scot, and two cousins, Autumn and Amber, to see me in action. I played a footballer and had to show off all my skills. It was brilliant."

The initiative, which started in January, was funded by Swindon Council and the Woodward Charitable Trust.

Javed Miah, 10, from Goddard Park School in Park North, seemed equally excited about his brush with fame. He said: "I talked about how we can improve the area by rubbing graffiti off the wall. It was fun and I would like to be a movie star."

His father, Mohammed, 38, was also impressed. "It is a great way to get children more involved and encourage them to learn new skills," he said.

And the enthusiastic response delighted Shahina Johnson, artistic director of the Mobile Media Club.

She said: "The children worked really hard and were involved in the whole process of film making, including the editing. Besides gaining in self confidence, they also had to work as a team."
