ENGLAND Schools captain Nick Scholey entered the Gloucester and Somerset PGA medal at his home course at Henbury and won with a two-under-par 69, despite dropping shots at the final two holes.
Matchplay champion James Taylor (Kendleshire) was the leading pro on 68.
The 19-year-old Gloucestershire junior champion and senior county player who plays off plus one is now embarking on a year's full-time golf after passing his A levels at Cotham School in Bristol.
Marcus Higley (Yeovil), who came close to winning his European Tour card this year, outclassed the field to gain a decisive win in at Burnham and Berrow. His two-under-par 69 included five birdies.
Lee Wood (Cleeve Hill) finished two shots behind while Mark Plummer (Castle Combe), Ed Goodwin (Cotswold Hills) and Shirehampton amateur Steve Yorke (75-72) joint third on 72.
The 33 players who entered at Weston-super-Mare were disappointed as heavy frost forced David Haines to call it off.
There was similar disappointment at Filton when heavy rain meant another blank day.
