THE possibility that Swindon primary schools might be offered videos showing children how to protect themselves in the event of a terrorist attack is a grim reminder of the danger we could all be facing.
And many people will denounce it as a symptom of unnecessary panic.
The sad truth is that schools will be damned if they do show it and could be damned if they don't. In deciding whether to show it or not head teachers and governors will be facing a tough dilemma.
They know that many young children are already worried by the war against Iraq and what it might mean for all of us. To dismiss their fears would insult their intelligence and it is difficult to know how to reassure them.
We believe schools can be trusted to act responsibly in this, but at the end of the day parents should also be given the chance to participate in the decision.
Both will be walking a tightrope.
Unfortunately, with the dangers facing our world this is a question which cannot be ignored.
