SWINDON TOWN legend Don Rogers has been unveiled as president of the North Wilts Youth Football League.
The new set-up a breakaway from the existing Swindon Minors League is scheduled to commence next season and Rogers has been selected as the perfect figurehead to oversee the programme.
The former County Ground star who runs a successful sports shop on Faringdon Road was more than willing to take the role of ambassador when approached by the league's administrators.
He said: "I'm very happy to take the position and I'm looking forward to being involved.''
Rogers, who stepped down as manager of Hellenic League side Pewsey Vale last year added: "I know most of the people involved in the new league and they are very professional. Hopefully the league will reflect that and it will be good for junior football in the area.''
Mark Smedley is one of the administrators spearheading the new league.
He was delighted with the acquisition of such a high-profile name.
"Don will be a great figurehead for the North Wilts Youth League,'' he said. "Everyone knows him and he supplies most of our clubs with kit. He provides an excellent service and is a trusted name who shows an interest in the development of youth football.''
The new league is currently waiting on official approval from the Wiltshire FA, which should be given in the next four or five weeks.
Sponsorship has already been secured, with two major backers set to be unveiled once the league gets the official thumbs up from the local Football Association.
