There is absolutely no truth whatsoever in the astonishing claims made by Tory candidates that Lib Dem run Liverpool City Council has banned hot cross buns in schools (letters, March 21).
I have spoken to a councillor in Liverpool who says individual schools make their own decisions about what food is available to their pupils.
Although there is not a shred of evidence of any ban, any fair-minded person would be extremely concerned in the highly unlikely event that any school banned any religious symbol in the classroom.
Liverpool, not unlike Swindon, is a thriving and healthy multi-cultural society with respect for all faiths.
The suggestion by right-wing Tories that symbols of faith should be banned runs directly counter to the open, inclusive, multi-cultural and multi-faith society which has existed so happily in our towns for years.
The story is the usual hysterical nonsense we have become used to when Chris Rooney approaches election time. He needs help.
