I NOTICE from your columns that all of our local MPs voted in favour of the war on Iraq.

I wonder if any of them bothered to consult with their constituents before taking this action? Maybe they were just following the party line without taking into account their own conscience or perhaps they really believe in war as a means of curing the ills of that beleaguered country, Iraq.

It is difficult to understand how it is that intelligent people like our MPs can come to terms with the decision they have just made.

Some of us who have lived through the last war know the fallout that follows. Many of our soldiers, sailors and airmen will be lost or severely wounded many lives will be shattered as a very grave period awaits us.

How can our leaders President Bush and Prime Minister Blair both professing to be devout Christians let loose the most horrific weapons of war on the people of a much smaller and weaker country a country they have blockaded for 12 years preventing the people from receiving medicines and aid?

Do our MPs really believe that their actions will prevent terrorists from continuing their fearful strikes.

Furthermore to blame the French for their stance against war is a ridiculous argument as there are many in this country who support their stance.

Our MPs bear a heavy responsibility I trust they realise this.
